The History & Theology of the Book of Psalms
Led by Nelson Searcy
Wednesday, September 30th at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
The book of Psalms is often considered to be the most popular book of the Old Testament. It is also the Bible's longest book and can often be a bit complex to understand. But it's a book that is perhaps more relevant today than any other book of the Bible.
During this 90-minute online seminary level
Journey University class, you will learn:
- What is a "Psalm" and the original purpose for their collection?
- Who are the authors of the Pslams (the answers will surprise you)?
- Why was this collection of religious Hebrew poetry, written over centuries, collected and considered so important to include the scripture?
- How is the book of Psalms organized and how will this help us better understand the book?
- What are some 'favorite Psalms' and why have these been so beneficial and encouraging to believers and non-believers over the years?
- What are different types of literature in the Psalms and how can this help you interpret each Psalm more accurately?
- What is the big themes of the Psalms and what is God trying to teach us through this lengthy book?
- How to take apart (exegete) a Psalm so you can best understand it and apply it to your life. We will take apart a classic Psalm in the class so you will have the tools to do it on your own.
- * A preview of our teaching series on the Psalms entitled: Strength for the Seasons of Life: A Study Through the Book of Psalms, beginning October 4.
- Other resources for further study including groups, books and some great free online classes.
- Plus as many seminary-level insights that we can pack into our 90 minutes together.
